From Unkempt to Sparkling: The Story of How Grout Cleaning Transformed This Whitestone Home's Tile Floor
November 30, 2016
These homeowners, a nice couple from Whitestone, New York, realized that their home's entrance floor was becoming dirtier and dirtier with time. They tried everything they could, but nothing restored the floor to what it used to be. They hated the fact that an impossibly dirty floor was the first thing people saw when they entered their home. Desperate for a solution, they decided to go online to find out why nothing they did worked. That's when they found Sir Grout New York and information about our local grout cleaning service in Whitestone
. Upon browsing our site, they decided to book an appointment for a free evaluation and quote.
When the day of the evaluation arrived, our grout cleaning team checked the floor in question; it was an old tile floor, and it was dirty, but the main problem was the grout, which had accumulated a huge amount of dirt over time. They asked the homeowners what they had been using to try to solve the problem, and when our team saw the products, they knew exactly why the homeowners were having trouble keeping the floor clean. They were using all the wrong products, inadvertently making a bad situation even worse. Fortunately, our team was able to provide them with a solution.
To help them get their floor back to normal, we started by applying a non-toxic, pH-neutral cleaner to remove the dirt. Then, using a high-speed, gentle scrubber, the loose dirt was extracted from the tile and grout. After an exhaustive cleaning procedure, we used ColorSeal to seal the grout lines and make them water- and stain-resistant and Tile Armor to protect the tiles. ColorSeal is our proprietary product that gives grout that brand-new look. The whole process has several advantages: it leaves grout stain-free, with a completely uniform color, and if properly cared for, there is no need to reseal grout for a long time. Tile Armor, the other product we used, which is also a proprietary product, is a non-toxic, water-based tile and grout protector that is safe for families and pets.
Once the job was finished, we proceeded to show our clients the results. The homeowners were delighted by what they saw. Their only regret was that they didn't find us before spending hundreds of dollars and countless hours trying to do the job themselves.
We explained that if they followed our recommendations after our grout cleaning and ColorSealing service, they would be able to maintain the beautiful, clean look of their floor for a long time. First, we recommended them to clean the floor at least once a week by using a pH-neutral, soap-less cleaner, since soap-based cleaners tend to leave a film, making the surface look dull and favoring mildew growth in damp areas; secondly, we advised them to change mop water when dirty; thirdly, we instructed them to always dry the floor with a towel or terry cloth and to never leave tile floors to air-dry so dirt has a minimum chance of settling into the grout lines. We also told them to never use acid- or ammonia-based cleaners, because this could affect the grout's color, cause etching, and dull polished surfaces.
