While it's true most people want every surface in their home to look pristine, sometimes homeowners put more attention to the regular maintenance of specific rooms than others. This was the case for one of our customers, a Chelsea resident that made the mistake of neglecting the guest bathroom floor. Fortunately, our grout sealing experts in Chelsea, NY were there to solve the problem.

When she moved into her beautiful new home a few years prior, she loved the mosaic ceramic tiles on the guest bathroom floor, originally installed in the 50's. The tile pattern form of the floor relied on clean grout lines to make it stand out. Luckily she had a part-time job, so she always had time to clean the floor. She knew that mosaic tiles needed special care. For that reason, she planned a weekly cleaning routine to preserve the floor's original beauty.

Over time, the homeowner found herself paying less attention to the bathroom floor. She even decided to stop giving the floor regular maintenance because she didn't think the surface would deteriorate if she didn't clean it as often as she cleaned the master bathroom. After all, the bathroom was downstairs and it hardly saw any use. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Several months of neglect began to show on the bathroom floor. Little by little, the surface became grimy and dull. The homeowner didn't notice the state of the surface until one of her relatives visited and asked her if she had new tiles installed on the guest bathroom floor. To the owner's surprise, the once eye-catching mosaic tile pattern was no longer visible because the grout lines were heavily discolored. She never thought the floor could reach such a horrid state.

Frustrated, the homeowner decided to seek professional help. Even though she didn't know any hard surface specialists that could restore the floor, she remembered her mother had her kitchen countertops repaired by experts a few weeks prior. The owner called her mother and asked her about the company she had hired. The mother mentioned that the company she hired was Sir Grout Manhattan. She also assured the homeowner the outcome had been outstanding.

Following her mother's recommendation, the Chelsea resident went online and searched for our grout restoration services. After watching several video testimonials and browsing our picture gallery, she felt confident in our ability to restore the floor to its former glory. She called us to schedule a free in-home consultation.

On the appointed day, we visited the client's home to assess the bathroom floor. Upon entering the bathroom, we noticed the tiles were dull and the grout lines were full of dirt. The current state of the floor had been the result of improper maintenance. After a brief discussion with the customer, we explained to her that neglecting a surface regardless of its place in a home will always result in deterioration. The homeowner asked if something could be done to restore the surface to its original appearance. We assured her a thorough cleaning of the floor and a grout sealing procedure would get it back in shape. To seal the floor, we would use our proprietary sealant ColorSeal. The customer accepted the proposal and scheduled another date for the job.

Later that week, we returned to the client's home to restore the floor. We began by cleaning the surface. To do this, we soaked the floor with Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner. On top of being safe for tile and grout, this pH-neutral cleaner contains properties that can help inhibit the growth of harmful microorganisms for an extended period of time after it has been applied. After we let the cleaner sit for a few minutes, we removed the grime from the tiles and grout lines using a high-speed scrubber. We also used a steam cleaner to remove the most stubborn dirt from the grout. When we finished cleaning, we applied ColorSeal to the grout lines. This acrylic-based sealant protects grout against water, stains, dirt, mold, and mildew. It also gives grout a uniform color. In this case, the customer chose white to make the tiles stand out.

Once we finished, we let the client see her renewed bathroom floor. She was thrilled by the outcome. The tiles were now clean and the grout made the tiles stand out. She thanked us for the job and said she would recommend our services to anyone in need of hard surface restorations.

Prior to leaving, we gave the homeowner a few recommendations to ensure the floor remained in top condition. Neglecting hard surfaces will only lead to costly repairs. For this reason, we recommended cleaning the floor once a week using products like our proprietary cleaner and a dry mop. Not only will this practice keep the surface clean, it will also help prolong the lifespan of the grout lines. We also advised the client to keep the bathroom floor as dry as possible.
